Elizabeth Lyman Tooson, more affectionately known as Liz or Ms. Liz, was born on September 17, 1932 to the late Nathaniel and Louvenia Lyman in Birmingham, Alabama.  Elizabeth moved from Birmingham to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania when she was young.  She acquired her G.E.D and began working for Mercy Hospital.  On March 18, 1970, Elizabeth began working as a crossing guard for the Pittsburgh Public School District.  She later obtained her Cosmetology license on September 1, 1970, although she continued her work as a crossing guard for over 20 years.  Elizabeth primarily worked on Robinson and Terrace Streets, serving HC Frick, St. Agnes and Carlow College students, where she became acquainted with many of the students, their parents, and the school's faculty.  Aside from being devoted to her career, Elizabeth was a dedicated mother to her children.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.  She loved flowers and all of the other beautiful things in life.

On Friday, July 15, 2022, Elizabeth made her earthly departure peacefully and surrounded by family.  She will be eternally missed by all who have come to know and love her.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents Nathaniel and Louvenia Lyman and all of her siblings.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Elise Barr (Willie); sons Terrance, James, and Gregory Tooson; grandchildren Terrance, Terrell, Tara, Terri Elisa, James Gregory, William Barr (Leeane), Kalia, LaKisha, Diara, KeeKee; 12 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.  Extended family members include Eugene and Linda Sherer, Robert "Chip" Barkley (Marcia), Cathy Davis, Gladys Jelks, Nadine Banks, Sandra Griffin, Donna Reynolds, and a host of other cousins, friends, and neighbors.
