Obituary

It was on July 29, 1932, that the Lord Blessed a young couple in the City of Reidsville, North Carolina with a baby girl named Mary.  On Friday January 12, 2024, the Lord Jehovah called Mary home.  Her loving sons Norman and Arthur were by her before she departed.  Mary Louise Gregory a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh lived a full life!  She was the daughter of the late Willie Carter and Laurena Whitt.  She was one of eight brothers and sister all but one who have gone on before her to be with the lord.  Brothers Willie F. Whitt and Charles Whitt, sisters Annie M. Daniels, Irvin C. Moten, Virginia White, and Janice Battles.  Surviving sister Deloris Whitt still lives in Pittsburgh, Pa.  The family moved from the south in 1944 and relocated in Pittsburgh, Pa.  Mary was a student and graduate  of the City of Pittsburgh Public Schools, graduating from Fifth Avenue High School.  Mary met and married Norman L. Gregory, Sr. her late husband of over 50 years and had 2 sons. She worked as a cashier for many years at Goodsteins Drug Store in the Lower Hill District before retiring.  Later she worked for the City of Pittsburgh Public Schools as a Lunch Aide at Sunnyside Elementary School and retired from there.

One of her true pleasures was sewing, something she enjoyed with her sisters and nieces.  She would teach sewing classes on Tuesday's to seniors at a local Presbyterian Church in East Liberty for many years.  Following in the footsteps of her late mother she became a devoted Jehovah Witness and dedicated her life to the congregation till her passing.  A member of the Homewood Kingdom Hall and later and finally the Garfield Heights Kingdom Hall.  Mary was a member for over 45 years.

Leaving behind to mourn her passing is Sons:  Norman L. Gregory, Jr.(Chinnie), Arthur A. Gregory; Step-Daughters:  Ava Charles (Ronnie Deceased), Kathryn Jones (Jerome Deceased), Rita Gregory-Sheard (Paul Deceased), Karen Gregory; Grandchildren: Gabrielle Gregory, Norman L. Gregory III, Isaiah Gregory, Kimani Gregory, Don Roberts, Jewell Stephens, Ronnie Charles (Briana), Allison Charles, Brian Gregory, Stephen Clements (LeJune);  Great-Grandchildren:  Don Roberts Jr; Jaxon Roberts; Evan Oaks, Parker Clements, Quinn Clements and Ronin Charles; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 19, 2024 3pm to 5pm. Services will follow immediately after at. 5pm. Location: West Funeral Home Chapel, 2215 Wylie Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219
