IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Travis Lawrence
Butler
May 12, 1979 – September 14, 2024
Travis Lawrence Butler was born on May 12, 1979, to Sharon Butler and Robert King in Pittsburgh, PA. He was a vibrant baby with an abundance of energy and character. Even at a young age, Travis had a special gift for bringing love and laughter to everyone around him.
Family meant everything to Travis. His mother, Sharon, held a very special place in his heart; he valued her wisdom and guidance throughout his journey. He shared an unbreakable bond with his brother Derrick, and always tagged along wherever he went when they were younger.
As he grew up, Travis developed a deep love for music, especially R&B. He knew nearly every song played on WAMO 106 FM by heart and could even name all the DJs on the station. He also liked being a DJ. And to Travis the karaoke machine was possibly the best invention ever. He had several of them, and they always needed to be plugged in and ready to go at a moment's notice. Travis graduated from Langley High School and worked for Giant Eagle a few years after graduation.
There are very few people who have the mental sharpness and memory retention that Travis possessed. He had an incredible memory—he could remember what someone wore, where they sat, and what they ate at a party from ten years ago! Food also brought him great happiness, particularly "Chicken with Barbecue Sauce," which he fondly described as his favorite dish.
Travis gave his life to Christ at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Jesus transformed his life along with his taste in music. Gospel became his music of choice almost exclusively as he walked in obedience to the God. Two of his favorite gospel artists were Earnest Pugh and CeCe Winans.
His father Robert, preceded him in death. Travis is survived by his mother, Sharon; his brother Derrick (Raquel); his nephew Derrick Jr.; his niece Kamara; and many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
