Vanessa Gwenay Hawkins, more affectionately known as "Nessie", was born on December 15, 1955, the 14thchild of Martha R. Wright Hawkins and Thomas B. Hawkins in Clarksdale, Mississippi.  Although she was born with a disability, Nessie was educated through St. Anthony School for special education.  She learned life skills, how to write her name, take care of her clothing, and fold laundry.  Those skills earned her to later in life get odd jobs for Vanessa to earn money that she treasured.  Vanessa will be best remembered for her love of family, parties, food, dancing, and spending time with family.

Vanessa was preceded in death by her parents: Thomas and Martha Hawkins; brothers: Billy, Leroy, Thomas, and Gerome Hawkins; and sisters: Martha R. Warren, Barbara Ervin, Bonnie Mitchell.

Vanessa peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 11, 2024.

Vanessa leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, her three loving sisters: Rosena Hawkins, Pearlean Coleman, and Monet Beverly; two brothers: James Hawkins and Anthony Hawkins; one sister in law: Yong Hawkins; and a host of nieces and nephews, great and great great.

It broke our hearts to lose you but you did not go alone. A part of all of us went with you the day God called you home.  Rest in Peace Nessie, our beloved sister, auntie, cousin, and friend.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at West Funeral Home Chapel; Visitation: 12p to 1pm; Service 1pm.
